New Trends in Window Replacement
There are many reasons to replace the windows and doors in your home. Energy efficiency upgrades, easier operation, and a more comfortable living space are some of the more common reasons we hear, but what about curb appeal? At Packerland Home Improvement, we tend to replace a lot of old, worn out windows so we know the difference new windows can make to the beauty of a home. While most homeowners choose a style or design similar to what they currently have, there are many others who are interested in making a drastic change.
In some homes this change means changing the operation, taking out one kind of window and putting in a different style. We often change casement windows (the kind that cranks out) into a horizontal gliding window. This option is great for areas where an open casement would cause problems like a porch or deck. We also see a lot of homeowners with sunrooms or solariums that currently have double hung (up-and-down) windows moving to a gliding style. This option is great because the gliding window offers an unobstructed view to the outside and can be made in a larger size so that one gliding window could replace two or more windows of a different style.
Another trend we’re seeing is the use of accent colors in window and door replacement projects. While having a pop of color from a front entry door has been popular for several years, we’re now seeing homeowners incorporating these colors in trim and window colors as well. For some homes, this means a complimentary third color between the windows, siding, and wrap, usually something to bring in the colors from gutter, soffit, or fascia and create a cohesive look.
In our showroom, we have multiple styles on display to help homeowners imagine the possibilities for their homes. In the photos below we show a black gliding window with a matching black wrap, a double hung window in our Red Rock color with a thick cream-colored wrap, and a gliding picture window in Sandtone with a thinner Red Rock wrap.
